From the extreme backcountry to the passes.in Naples and Marco, chunky gold and silver fun sized tarpon are everywhere, and eating everything. During the rains, we took a livewell full of shrimp, and ultra light spinning gear way back into the Naples backcountry to some remote creeks that were full of rolling tarpon from 10 to 60 pounds.
The fish were feeding and shrimp were at the top of the list. Despite the fresh water killing most of the shrimp, we jumped tarpon all morning before the tide slowed down and we decided to head out to the gulf and see what was going on out there.
We had the water to ourselves in the light drizzle , and spent an hour Gordon Pass on the outside, jumping and landing several more tarpon. The snook certainly did not want to be left out of the party, after we caught a a load of snapper and released tarpon.
Pablo suddenly got a thump on his jig that turned into a 20 pound fat piggy if a snook that took almost 20 minutes to land on the 10 pound gear and light leader.
Perfect way to end the day and go clean the dozen fat snapper we landed between the tarpon that seem to be everywhere and eating everything!
